In the Montes de María are about 3700 acres avocado trees destroyed by the fungus Phytophthora cinnamomi, the trees dry out completely. Another 1,800 acres is in danger. The crisis has hit the avocado industry very hard.  The last harvest was not made. 37,000 million pesos profit more

The growers will go again on protest. This time they are accompanied by traders, transporters and employees - in their livelihood by this product - if no action is taken by the national Ministry of Agriculture within two weeks. Phytophthora cinnamomi is a fungus that lives in soil and plant tissues. He can take different forms and can move in water. During periods of harsh environmental conditions the chlamydospores sleep and suitable conditions they germinate and produce mycelia (or hyphae) and sporangia.
